Policy Differences
While reaching out to voters, one of the things we hear most often is “how is Marie different from Sen. McBride?”
People often say they’ve heard Sen. McBride’s name, but don’t know much about his policies or his priorities.
So we created a simple 1-pager describing the differences. Let us know your thoughts!
Environmental justice
Marie: Believes we must not only transition Delaware into a green state but we must ensure environmental justice for all residents while doing so. She also believes in urgent action to address the “forever chemicals” in our community, such as ensuring area facilities use safe chemicals and technologies, public monitoring of toxic emissions, and notifying the public if accidents occur.
Sen. McBride: Championed an amendment to increase the height of the Minquadale landfill to 140 feet. This same bill allowed for hazardous waste buffer zones to come within .25 miles of homes, schools, and parks.
Good Government
Marie: Believes legislators shouldn’t accept gifts from lobbyists.
Sen. McBride: Cited in the Veasey Report for improperly receiving unreported gifts from a lobbyist. Sen. McBride receives numerous gifts from lobbyists.
Criminal Justice Reform
Marie: Supports a “Smart on Crime” approach that emphasizes restorative justice and ending mass incarceration, while providing economic opportunities.
Sen. McBride: Prime sponsor of a bill to add mandatory minimum sentencing for 2nd offenders.
Minimum Wage
Marie: Supports raising the minimum wage to $15 an hour and indexing it to inflation.
Sen. McBride: Stalled efforts to raise the minimum wage to $15.
Gun Violence
Marie: Marie, like most Delawareans, knows several people who have either lost their lives or loved ones to gun violence. Marie believes we need to treat gun violence like a health crisis.
Sen. David McBride: Blocked the assault weapons ban.
COVID-19 Response and Health
Marie: Advocates for a proactive COVID-19 response including a Medicaid buy-in option to ensure that every Delawarean has access to affordable healthcare.
Sen. David McBride: Has refrained from advocating for any specific COVID-19 response. He has been mostly silent on his solutions.
These are just a few of the reasons why we need Marie.
